Reading & organizing
Read and manage your Webmail — mark messages read or unread, add one of seven colored flags, star, archive, move messages between folders, delete to Trash, and search across everything you've received.
Purpose
Once mail is arriving in your Webmail inbox, this is how you keep it under control: mark things read, flag what needs follow-up, file messages into folders, archive what's done, and search for anything you've lost track of. Every action is in the reading-pane toolbar on the right.
When you use it
Reach for these tools whenever your inbox starts filling up — flagging the decisions you need to act on, archiving threads that are settled, and searching back through correspondence when you need to find a specific message again.
Walkthrough
- 1
Mark read / unread. The toolbar's mail icon toggles a message between read and unread. The sidebar's unread count next to Webmail updates in real time. To clear a whole folder, right-click it and choose Mark All Messages as Read.
- 2
Flag with a color. Click the flag button to open the color picker and choose one of seven colors — Orange, Red, Purple, Blue, Yellow, Green, or Gray. Pick a different color to recolor, or choose Clear flag to remove it. Flagged messages collect in the global Flagged folder.
- 3
Star. Click the star on a message to drop it into the global Starred folder — handy for a short list of things you want one click away.
- 4
Move to a folder. Click Move to Folder and pick a destination from the folder list. See Folders for creating your own.
- 5
Archive. Click Archive to move a finished message into your Archive folder — out of the Inbox but kept (the Archive folder is created the first time you use it). Archiving is for tidying, not deleting.
- 6
Delete. Click Delete to move a message to Trash. Deleting again from inside Trash removes it permanently — a toast confirms either action.
- 7
Search. Type in the search bar at the top (two or more characters). It searches subjects, message bodies, sender names, and recipients, and shows suggestions as you type. Results replace the folder view; clear the search to return to your folders.
Tips
Stars are a single quick-access pile; flags carry seven colors, so they work well as a lightweight status system — e.g. red for "needs a reply", green for "done, awaiting confirmation". Whatever you choose, both have their own smart folder so you can see everything tagged at once.
Moving a message to Trash is reversible — it's still there. But deleting it a second time from within Trash removes it from the system for good. Archive anything you might want later instead.
