Paper Bidding

Rate how keen you are to handle each paper so the matching algorithm can place papers in your area accordingly.

Last updated: 2026-06-28

Purpose

The Paper Bidding tab lets you express, paper by paper, how much you want to handle each submission. Your bids feed the matching algorithm so papers land with the Area Chair best suited to them. Each row shows the paper, its keywords and authors, an affinity score, and a conflict flag where one applies.

When you use it

  • During the bidding window, before reviewer assignment runs.
  • To make sure you reach the minimum number of bids your program requires.
  • To flag papers you would rather not handle (Low / Very Low) and the ones you are keen on (High / Very High).

Walkthrough

  1. 1

Open the Area Chair Console, select your program, and click Paper Bidding.

  2. 2

Browse the paper list. Sort by affinity, paper number, title, or authors, and filter by your current bid to focus your work. Open a paper to read its abstract and details before bidding.

  3. 3

Set a bid on each paper — Very High, High, Neutral, Low, or Very Low. Watch the progress indicator climb toward the required minimum.

  4. 4

Keep bidding until your progress shows complete, so the matching has enough signal to place papers with you.

Tips

Higher affinity means a better topical match

The affinity score estimates how well a paper matches your expertise. Use it as a shortcut — start with the high-affinity papers and bid those up — but trust your own read of the abstract over the number.

Conflicts are not bids

A paper flagged as a conflict should never be one you handle. Do not bid it up to work around the flag; if a conflict is wrong or missing, raise it from the Actions tab instead.
